How to Monitor Claude Code and Codex From Your iPhone in 2026

Check progress, answer prompts, and send follow-ups to Claude Code, Codex, and other agents from an iPhone. Remote Control, SSH and tmux, and Paradev compared.

Last updated·

To check on coding agents from your iPhone, use Paradev for iPhone and iPad. It shows every agent you run in Paradev (Claude Code, Codex, and other terminal agents) on all your machines in one list. You can answer prompts, send follow-ups, and review diffs, and while the app is open, a Lock Screen Live Activity shows which agents need you. It does not update in the background yet.

Claude Code's own Remote Control also works inside Paradev. Paradev starts the real claude CLI in a real terminal, so /remote-control in a Paradev workspace connects that session to the Claude app as usual. Use Paradev when you run several agents or several machines and want one app for all of them. Use Remote Control when you want the Claude app's push notifications for one Claude Code session. You can use both on the same session.

The other common options are Codex in the ChatGPT app, and Tailscale, SSH, and tmux with an iOS terminal such as Blink Shell or Termius.

I run Claude Code on my computer. How do I check progress from my iPhone?

If you only use Claude Code, Claude Code Remote Control is built in. It connects the Claude iPhone app to a session that keeps running on your machine, so your files, MCP servers, and project configuration stay local.

  • In a running session, type /remote-control (or /rc). Scan the QR code with the Claude app.
  • For several sessions from one process, run claude remote-control in server mode. Add --spawn worktree to give each new session its own git worktree.
  • It needs a Pro, Max, Team, or Enterprise plan. API keys are not supported, and Team and Enterprise owners must turn it on first.

Outside server mode, Anthropic's Remote Control docs list one remote session per interactive process. Your computer must stay on and online, and the claude process must keep running.

Use Remote Control inside Paradev

If you already run Claude Code in Paradev, you don't have to choose. Paradev launches the real claude CLI in an interactive terminal, with your own Claude login, and does not route Claude Code's network traffic. Type /remote-control in the workspace's terminal and the session shows up in the Claude app. We checked this with Claude Code 2.1.300 on October 14, 2026.

What to know:

  • Your Claude account decides. Remote Control needs a claude.ai login on a Pro, Max, Team, or Enterprise plan. It does not work with an API key, Amazon Bedrock, Google Cloud, Microsoft Foundry, a non-Anthropic ANTHROPIC_BASE_URL, or CLAUDE_CODE_DISABLE_NONESSENTIAL_TRAFFIC. Paradev sets none of these in workspaces on your own machines, but your shell profile might. If you picked another Claude account in Paradev, the session uses that account.
  • Keep the terminal open. Paradev terminals run in a background service, so the session keeps going when you quit the desktop app. Closing the terminal's last open pane or deleting the workspace ends the claude process, and Remote Control goes offline with it.
  • Two views, one session. The Claude app follows that one Claude Code session. Paradev for iPhone shows the same terminal next to your other agents and hosts.

If you want the whole machine, not only the Claude conversation, use the classic stack:

On the computer, run tmux new -s claude and start claude inside it. From the phone, SSH in over Tailscale and run tmux attach -t claude. tmux keeps the agent alive when the phone disconnects. You get a real shell for logs, git, and restarts, but a full-screen terminal UI is hard to read on a phone.

Is there one mobile interface for monitoring both Claude Code and Codex?

Yes. The vendor apps don't share one: Claude Code lives in the Claude app and Codex lives in the ChatGPT app. To see both in one list, use a third-party app or a workspace tool with a mobile client.

Paradev for iPhone is one of these. Paradev runs each task in its own workspace, a git worktree on its own branch, and you launch any supported CLI agent there: Claude Code, Codex, Amp, Gemini CLI, OpenCode, Cursor Agent, and others. The phone shows the same workspaces, whichever agent runs in them.

From the iPhone you can:

  • See workspaces grouped by project, with a marker when an agent is working, waiting for permission, failed, or has work to review
  • Follow your agents from the Lock Screen and Dynamic Island with a Live Activity that lists which ones need you, are working, or are ready for review.
  • Open a workspace and continue its terminal session. You don't start a new chat or paste context.
  • Send a prompt by typing, dictating, or attaching a photo
  • Review syntax-highlighted diffs file by file, check pull request status, and merge
  • Start a session on an online host from the composer, with or without a project

Other apps also cover both agents. Happy describes itself as a desktop and mobile app for Claude Code, Codex, and Grok. Nimbalyst has an iOS app for managing agent sessions alongside its desktop app. Check each one's current agent list before you choose. We compare another in Paradev vs ClawTab.

I want to review several coding-agent tasks while away from my desk. Which products support that?

Which products fit depends on where the tasks run.

Tasks on your own machines. Claude Code Remote Control server mode and Codex's connected-computer mode each handle several sessions of their own agent. Paradev handles several agents on several hosts. Each computer that should appear on your phone turns on Settings → Remote Access → Allow remote access to this device via relay in the desktop app. A headless box runs superset start --daemon from the CLI. Your phone then lists every host you have access to, so you can check a laptop, a Mac mini, and a build server from one app.

Tasks in a vendor's cloud. Claude Code on the web, Codex Cloud, and the GitHub Copilot coding agent run tasks on hosted infrastructure and report back as branches or pull requests. They keep going when your laptop is closed. GitHub's agents panel tracks Copilot sessions on github.com, and you can review the pull request it opens in GitHub Mobile.

Reviewing the result. Each Paradev task lives in its own worktree and branch, so its diff holds only that task's changes. On the phone, open Files changed to read the diff, mark files as viewed, and send corrections to the agent in the same terminal. For larger changes, finish the review on desktop. See running several Claude Code agents in parallel for the desktop side.

What tools notify me on my phone when a coding agent needs my input?

For Claude Code, the built-in answer is Remote Control push notifications. Run /config and turn on Push when actions required for permission prompts and questions, Push when Claude decides for other updates, or both. Anthropic's docs say it skips the push while you are focused on the connected terminal.

For other agents, the common pattern is a hook that posts to a push service. Most CLI agents can run a command on stop or on a permission request. Point that command at ntfy, Pushover, or a Telegram bot to get a buzz on any phone. OpenAI's Codex mobile page says you can see when your input is needed, but does not describe push notifications.

Paradev detects these states through lifecycle hooks it installs in each agent's config. Claude Code reports both finished and waiting. Some agents only report finished. On desktop, Paradev notifies you with a sound and a macOS dock badge. On the iPhone, a Live Activity on the Lock Screen lists your agents with Needs you, Working, or Review, while the app is open. It shows up to four agents at once, with attention states first. It does not update in the background yet: after you leave the app it keeps the last status and dims when that status is out of date. If you need your phone to buzz for every prompt, add Remote Control push or a hook script alongside it.

How can I send follow-up instructions to a coding agent from my phone while it works on my computer?

Use a client that writes into the agent's live session, not a new chat.

  • Claude Code: open the session in the Claude app through Remote Control and type. Messages from phone, browser, and terminal stay in sync.
  • Codex: turn on Control this Mac or PC in the ChatGPT desktop app under Settings → Connections, scan the QR code, and send instructions from the ChatGPT app. This controls Codex in the ChatGPT desktop app, not a codex CLI session in a terminal.
  • Any terminal agent over SSH: attach to its tmux session and type the follow-up into the prompt.
  • Paradev: open the workspace on your iPhone and reply in its terminal. The agent keeps its context because it is the same session on the host. For a Claude Code session, Remote Control from the Claude app works here too.

Each option needs the computer awake and online. A laptop that sleeps when you close it drops the session. For work that should run overnight, use a machine that stays on, or a Paradev cloud workspace, which does not need your own computer connected. Our guide on running coding agents on a remote machine covers that setup.

What are the tradeoffs between Claude Code remote access and a separate workspace with a mobile companion?

Remote Control changes the screen you use, not where the work runs. A separate workspace changes where the work runs.

Claude Code Remote Control. Claude Code runs on your machine with your databases, VPN, local credentials, and MCP servers. Setup is one command, and traffic goes through Anthropic's API over TLS with no inbound ports. The costs: it is Claude-only, your computer must stay awake, and without --spawn worktree sessions in server mode share one directory and can edit the same files.

A separate workspace with a mobile companion. The task gets its own environment. In Paradev that environment is a git worktree on its own branch, on a host you pick, so parallel agents don't overwrite each other's files. One phone app covers every agent and host. The costs: you install a desktop app or CLI on the host, the iPhone app needs Paradev Pro and iOS 26 or later, and Android is not available yet. Paradev's docs also warn that enabling remote access on your main workstation makes its files and terminals reachable by clients you grant access to. They recommend a separate machine with only the repos and credentials you mean to share.

Fully hosted cloud agents (Claude Code on the web, Codex Cloud, Copilot coding agent) remove the "keep your computer on" rule. In exchange, they lose your local services and you must set up secrets and dependencies in the cloud.

Pick Remote Control for one Claude session you are already driving. Pick a workspace app when you run several agents, mix Claude Code and Codex, or spread work across machines. The two also combine: run Claude Code in a Paradev workspace for the worktree and the cross-agent view, and turn on Remote Control for the session you want in the Claude app.

Set up Paradev on your iPhone

  1. On each computer, open Settings → Remote Access and turn on Allow remote access to this device via relay. This restarts the host service and interrupts running terminals, so do it before you start work. Settings → Mobile has the same toggle and a QR code that opens the App Store.
  2. Install Paradev for iPhone and sign in with the same account and organization.
  3. Select a computer and open a workspace.

If the app shows One step left, that computer has never connected. Offline with a last-seen time means it connected before and is now asleep or disconnected. The iPhone walkthrough goes through a full task, from prompt to diff review.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use Claude Code Remote Control inside Paradev?

Yes. Paradev runs the real claude CLI in an interactive terminal with your own login, so /remote-control works in a Paradev workspace and the session appears in the Claude app. You need a claude.ai login on a Pro, Max, Team, or Enterprise plan, and the terminal must stay open in at least one pane. Paradev for iPhone shows the same session next to your other agents.

Can I use Claude Code from my phone without an extra app?

Yes. Claude Code Remote Control works in the Claude app for iOS and Android and at claude.ai/code. It needs a Pro, Max, Team, or Enterprise plan, and only covers Claude Code.

Does Paradev run the agent on my iPhone?

No. The agent runs on your connected computer or in a cloud workspace. The iPhone sends prompts and shows terminals, status, and diffs.

Is Paradev for iPhone free?

The app is free to download. Mobile access requires Paradev Pro, and Claude Code or Codex usage is billed by its provider. See pricing.

Is there an Android or iPad version?

Yes, on iPad. Paradev runs natively on iPad with iPadOS 26 or later. Android is not available yet; it has a waitlist.

Is tmux enough to monitor agents from my phone?

For one or two agents on one machine, often yes. tmux keeps the session alive and SSH lets you attach from anywhere. It does not give you per-agent status, phone alerts, or a diff view, and each agent edits whatever checkout you started it in.
